Digital Learning in Schools

Image result for teachers using technology

As the owner of a digital physical education company, I am always learning about the different strategies and methods schools are implementing technology.  The people at put out a great article about how to improve a school district's digital leadership.#motivationmonday #technology #learning #school #backtoschool

Most people don't think of physical education being a digital learning subject, but Learn To Move Academy is a pioneer in web based tool for teachers.  Everyone lives on their phones and tablets now, so why not give PE teachers something to use that's mobile and can be used on the court or field.  With budget cutbacks, PE is one of the first subjects to have reduced funding and time.  It becomes an after thought when physical fitness is primary in life itself.  With no books and binders to take up space, why not invest in more digital resources to be accessed on field trips, in the classroom, and at home.  If not for digital, you couldn't read this blog from anywhere in the world.

What Is The Cost of Winning?

As Vince Lombardi said, "Winning is not a sometime thing, it is an all the time thing."  And for the most part, he is right.  But as parents, when you you draw the line with telling your kids winning is the most important thing over all else?  #wednesdaywisdom #winningwednesday #wednesdaymotivation #champions

Does winning become the dominant theme over sportsmanship and respect for yourself and others?  I am a huge sports fan and avid athlete so winning is extremely important on a personal level.  It is a difficult decision with some parents in teaching their kids to win vs win at all costs.  When the game is over, it is over and life resumes it's regularly schedule program.  Teach your kids to do their best and have a winning attitude, and combine it with humility and sportsmanship so everyone wins in the end.

Giving Your Best Effort

We always tell kids to give their best effort, but what makes them do so?  Is it internal motivation or the culture they are in?  Today I want to give a shout out to the 5th & 6th grade classes at St. Cletus Elementary School in Gretna, LA.  They gave 100% effort in their pre performance testing for Learn To Move Academy. #champions #winners #teachers #leadership

I have seen children of all ages in various environments go through sports practices and PE classes.  Some kids do want to perform to their highest level, others don't care and nothing you say or do changes it.  I firmly believe a culture of empowerment and doing your best starts at the top.  Whether it is in business, sports, or school, how the leader encourages and empowers those below him or her is reflected in their efforts.  If you want your followers (whoever they are) to give 100%, then you give them 100% of yourself.

Exercise Can Help Reduce Anxiety in Teens and Children

Unhappiness has taken over

We have all heard exercise can be a good outlet for anger, but what about anxiety?  The people at Paradigm Treatment Centers have a great article on how exercise can help teens manage stress and anxiety.  Check out their blog post Paradigm Treatment Center-Malibu.  #paradigmtreatmentcenters #exercise #teenanxiety

Telling your kids it's ok to run around the block or punch a pillow or do push ups till you can't do anymore are great ways to blow off steam.  By having exercise and healthy eating as part of their lifestyle, kids can more easily cope with stress.  With the whole family living a healthy, active lifestyle, relationships within the family tend to be more positive.

Back Into the Homework Groove is Not Fun!

Back to school means back to homework.  BOOOOOO!!!! Yes, kids AND parents have to get back into the homework groove, but how?  I found a site called that has some great ideas to help with study skills.  #backtoschool #children #parenting #teachers

Time management is the key everything, homework definitely included.  As parents, it is our job to set time aside and stick to that time everyday for our kids to finish their homework.  Yes, kids moan, cry, and complain, but it does not matter.  When they get to college and we aren't there to make them study, it is this time management skill that teaches them that school work comes before play.  What are some tips you have to help with time management?

Getting Organized for Back to School

How do teachers, parents, and students get organized for back to school? Planners, online programs, apps, Oh My!!  Here are some online ideas from Educational Technology & Mobile Learning.  #teachers #education #backtoschool #parenting #students

Some people very much need to use a pen and paper to write down ideas and lists, but then where do you put these scraps of paper.  Others prefer using apps on their phones and tablets, but how much memory are they taking up.  Maybe it is a combination of phone calendar and tracking in a small notebook.  The more jobs, kids, classes, etc. you have, the more in need of a simple organization system to track your commitments is necessary.  Find what works for you, and be consistent.  Life has a way of organizing itself when you give it proper attention.

It's All About the Eating, Not the Drugs for Heart Disease

I follow Dr. Michael Greger and love his honesty!  Read his article Eliminate 90% of Heart Disease Risk to learn it's all about what you do and don't eat! #MotivationMonday #hearthealth #healthyeating #diet #health

As a personal trainer I tell my clients 80% nutrition 20% exercise for best results.  Most people think it's the other way around, but you can't out exercise a bad diet!

Community Outreach Seminars for PE Teachers

I am excited this week to conduct Learn To Move Academy and Ochsner Sports Medicine Institute's first Learn, Apply, and Understand seminars for 3 schools systems in the New Orleans area.  It is a community outreach to PE teachers about incorporating long term athletic development into their curriculum.  St. James Parish School Board, St. Bernard Parish School Board, and the New Orleans Archdiocese schools have agreed to let us speak with their teachers and coaches this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  It is going to be a great time to teach the teacher!
